Photosynth is a popular app that lets you create Photo Spheres by “stitching” multiple photographs together taken in a 3D panoramic motion. One of the best Photo Sphere apps for iOS is Photosynth, a product of Microsoft Corporation. If you don’t like the official Photo Sphere app on iPhone, some third-party apps are there for you. It’s similar in functionality to the native Android counterpart. Update: Google has just launched the official Photo Sphere app for iOS devices. A Photo Sphere captures the world in your own perspective – a sphere of the surroundings with you at the center! In fact, you can actually navigate along the image in full 360 degrees. The setup has a ground wire for surge protection due to voltage spikes from any nearby lightning strikes. An ethernet cable, which runs to a nearby hub, serves as the internet and power connection. Black PLA is used to limit internal reflections.Ĭonstructed and placed in the forest the camera looks like a garden lamp (see figure). The only custom part is the mounting setup of the camera which is a 3D printed PLA setup. The optics are covered by a glass lamp shade to provide optimal transmission and limited deformation (acrylic globes can be used as well). The housing is made of standard PVC fittings, sitting on top of a garden fence post. In my application I track changes in leaf development in a Belgian forest. The photosphere project combines a Rico Theta 360 camera and a raspberry pi with a custom outdoor housing into a rugged 360 (outdoor) time-lapse camera.
